Students evaluated the Human Rights Temperature here at SDA. We began with a "line up" activity where students listen to an issue and then move to the appropriate place along an imaginary number line that indicates whether they firmly agree with the issue or firmly disagree with the issue.
After responding to about 10 issues, we returned to the classroom and ranked 25 issues that primarily address article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Everyone has the right to an Education) as well as several other articles within the UDHR. After students ranked the issues individually, they discussed each of the 25 issues with their peers and calculated an averaged ranking for each issue. Finally, each group calculated the average "temperature" for their table and then we calculated a class average. Period One's average is 63.84 out of 100 and Period Two's average is 64.75 out of 100. Ask your student what these numbers mean. Here is a copy of the assignment:
