In English 9 we warmed up by writing cinquain poems for Romeo and Juliet. In period 1 we worked on the journals for Act 2 scene 4. We did not complete this scene so it is homework tonight. In period 2 we finished Act 2 and had some time to watch the film. Students in period 2 should have their journals completed through act 2 and be ready to submit their journals for a journal check in class tomorrow.

In English 10 we continued reviewing and rewriting student work. The students are showing improvements in adding important details to lead-in of their concrete detail. The lead-in and integration of a concrete detail is one major part of a well written academic paragraph. I wanted to see where the students are in terms of writing a complete paragraph so I assigned them a group activity where they had to do a close reading of 3 paragraphs from The Catcher in the Rye and write a paragraph in response.
