In Class:
English 9
Period 1 - Students had an easy Monday. They chose to watch the film version of Romeo and Juliet. While they watched they should have been thinking about the three essay topics we will start in class tomorrow.
Period 2 - These students are further ahead than period 1 so they began the essay process today. To begin class, each student received his/her graded Dialectical Journal. Please ask your student what he or she earned. Then, students were introduced to the prompts for the Romeo and Juliet essay. Students took notes on the requirements of a thesis statement, chose the prompt to answer in their essay, and began their Quote Collector. Students should have 6 passages selected by tomorrow to use as evidence in their essay.
English 10
Period 4 - Students received my response to their creative project proposal. Most students can now begin working on their projects. Please verify with your student what his/her assignment is. We spent the remaining time working on writing thesis statements and completing the essay outline. Students will have the entire class period to work on the outline tomorrow and it is due in class on Wednesday. Additionally, on Wednesday we will go to a computer lab and type the first draft of the essay. Students who have not made sufficient progress on their outline will not be permitted to type their first drafts until it is complete. The Thesis Flow Chart assignment and the Essay Outline are available in the English 10 Assignments section of the website.
