English 9 Period 1: We began class by passing back some of the student's work they had turned in. Please ask to see their work and ask them if there is anything they can do to improve their grade on their quiz - students who scored less than 70% on the quiz can make corrections that are worth a half point each.
I then read students the story of Helios and his son Phaethon. Students marveled at Mr. Balogh's drawing abilities and will hopefully remember the story because Julia alludes to it in Act 3 scene 2 of Romeo and Juliet.
We finished the period by completing our work for Act 3 scene 1. Romeo has killed Tybalt, and, according to Juliet's mom, "Romeo must not live." Additionally, when Mercutio was dying he said something about being some kind of meat??? For extra credit, email me the name of the meat Mercutio says he is and tell me how it relates to the title of this blog.
Period 2: We also began class by passing back some of the student's work they had turned in. The same advice I gave to Period one I also gave to Period two, so please ask to see your student's work. Remember, students who scored less than 70% on the quiz can make corrections that are worth a half point each.
We also heard the story about Phaethon and Helios. Ask your student if he/she can retell it to you. Finally, Period two was able to finish Act 3 scene 2 and Act 3 scene 3. Those that did not finish their journals for those scenes should complete them tonight for homework.
English 10:
Period 4: We began class by looking at a sample of writing that used Holden's language. Next we had a "snowball fight" that allowed students to gain more knowledge on some of the words, phrases, and expressions that Holden uses throughout the novel The Catcher in the Rye. I modeled how to create a Life Graph to help students who wanted to do a brainstorming activity while the rest of the class began their first drafts of their Holden style story.
