Monday October 20 and Tuesday October 21
Homework
Decide on two general topics that you can use as a basis for persuading or dissuading others that a simple operation to increase a person's intelligence should be allowed. You should be able to support the topics with evidence from the nonfiction texts we have read and/or the short story Flowers for Algernon. Possible topics include independence, equality, acceptance, justice, etc.
Class Work
Students wanted to hear scary stories so Mr. Balogh shared a few and then opened up the floor to students to share their scary stories. Because so many students wanted to share their stories we decided to have a contest. Students were given about 40 minutes to write a draft of their own scary story. Some students wrote the story with a small group while others worked independently. We will revise throughout this week and next week with the contest being held on Friday October 31. Winning stories will get an iTunes gift card.
After the scary stories, we resumed our inquiry into intelligence. The homework is to finish what we began in class.
