Homework
Come to class with evidence that supports your position and your assigned topic. Read below for clarification.
Classwork
As a class, we made a list of general topics that could be used to persuade or dissuade people to allow a surgery to increase intelligence. Each class came up with approximately 12 topics that included: independence, safety, justice, health, acceptance, equality, economics, communication, contribution, necessity, originality, risk, and technology.
Then, students were divided into two groups: those in favor of an operation to increase intelligence and those against an operation to increase intelligence. Next, each group assigned their teammates one of the 12 topics. Students then searched for evidence of that topic that could be used support their team's position. For example, if a student is on the team in favor of the operation and is assigned the topic of independence, then that student has to find evidence that shows that the operation will increase a person's independence.
The second half of class was devoted to watching the 1968 film Charly which is the film adaptation of Flowers For Algernon. We will resume watching the film on our next block day.
