We began class by checking to make sure students completed their vocabulary flash cards, and then we played a game of around the world. Kai won in first period and Abbie won in second period. Then we began a character chart for Caged Bird. Some students wanted a digital copy so here is a pdf and a word version:

After adding some information on the first four characters listed in the chart, I read aloud chapter 7 to both classes. Period 2 had time to began chapter 8 as well. Expect a quiz on chapters 7 -10 tomorrow morning.

Today we began class with a vocabulary check and then we reviewed the activities. We forgot to play a vocabulary game so students can expect one in class tomorrow.
In Things Fall Apart there are many traditions that the Ibo practice and the students have been determining the values that are revealed through those traditions. Today we looked at the Ibo proverbs that appeared in chapter 1 of the novel and students discussed their meaning and the values revealed by each proverb. The handout for this activity should be placed in the students dialectical journal. Here is a copy of the handout in case you missed it:
