English 9 - Students began class with a quick write where they reflected on how they handle difficult situations and decisions. Students will keep this quick write and add to it throughout this unit. We then finished reading chapter one of I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. During the reading students used sticky notes to annotate the text and improve their comprehension of the story. For chapter two, students worked with partners to read and annotate the text. Once finished with chapter two students wrote a summary on the novel through chapter 2. They were directed to include descriptions of the setting(s), characters, conflicts, and anything else they discovered in their reading. Students turned in these summaries at the end of class today.
