Students had a few minutes to study before taking a multiple choice quiz on chapters 1-6 of I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings. After we graded and reviewed the quiz answers students received the correct definitions for the vocabulary that was introduced yesterday. We ended class by working in table groups to decide on adjectives that describe Marguerite (the main character in Caged Bird) and passages from the novel which support those descriptions.

Students began class with a quiz on chapters 1-4 of Things Fall Apart. After we graded the quiz and reviewed the answers students used their dialectical journals to write a thesis statement. The thesis statement should include a subject that identifies two, three, or four values of the Ibo people. The attitude/argument of the thesis statement should state that those values identified are the core/most important values of the Ibo people. The focus of the thesis statement should state two or three traditions that Ibo people practice and which reveal those core values.
