Today we reviewed the first 5 passages in the Antigone Reading Journal. Students worked together to paraphrase each passage. Each table then shared their paraphrasing with the class. Next, students shared their analysis of each passage with their table group and then presented it to the class. Analysis can be tricky and often students make the mistake of paraphrasing the passage again. In class we saw examples of three ways to analyze a passage:
1. Compare and Contrast
Students turned in their Things Fall Apart Study Questions for Chapters 1-13 today. To start class we did a quick review of chapters 1-13 in Things Fall Apart and then students took the chapters 1-13 test. Students received their scores before leaving class and the grades are posted on Aeries so you can check how the score affected your overall grade as well. Students had time after finishing the test to work on their vocabulary homework. The last 5 minutes of class were meant to be a dance party. Thank you Andrew in period 3 and

- Compare what the speaker says to what other characters say
- What does this reveal about the character(s).
- What does the character want? Why is he or she saying this?
- What does this reveal about the character?
- Based on what the character says or does, what can we determine about him her?
- The character trait should not be stated directly in the passage. The trait should be your own idea based on the action in the passage.
